Is it working?

Signs he misses you during no contact, and what each one can really tell you

The short answer: no list of signs he misses you during no contact can show what another person feels. A story view, a like or a remark from a friend each has several ordinary explanations. Only a plain sentence from them is evidence. The signs that hold up are in your own days: sleep, appetite, hours without checking. Of the 26,520 monthly searches we sorted, 29.0% ask about the other person and 3.0% ask whether no contact helps at all.

Two different questions hide inside "is it working"

A kitchen table with a single plate and a glass of water

"Working" can mean working on them or working for you. The first cannot be checked from where you stand. The second can, this evening.

We sorted 179 US search queries about no contact after a breakup by the question behind each one. The group "Is it working? Do they miss me?" holds 49 queries and 7,700 searches a month; "Does it work at all?" holds 4 queries and 800. So the other person's mind draws almost ten times the searches that the reader's own benefit does.

Research points at the smaller question. In a survey of 464 people by Tara Marshall, keeping watch on a former partner's Facebook page went with more current distress over the breakup, more longing and less personal growth. And across 25 experiments by Eyal, Steffel and Epley, trying to imagine another person's point of view did not make people more accurate about that person's thoughts or feelings.

This page on one card

2. The one clear sign is a clear sentence.

3. Signs about you can be counted weekly.

4. If checking fills your day, the checking is the thing to change.

What 179 search queries say people want to know

Add the groups up and 26,520 searches a month mention no contact after a breakup. A third (33.4%) ask what it is and how to begin; nearly as many, 29.0%, ask about the other person: does he miss me, what is she thinking, will they come back.

Working on them, or working for you

If your goal is to recover, distance works when you start to feel like yourself, whatever your ex does. If your hope is reconciliation, distance cannot produce it; only two people talking can, later, if both want that. Only the first can be measured.

The rule itself, in two sentences

No contact means a deliberate stretch with no calls, texts, likes or "accidental" meetings, taken so the loss can settle. More is on our page about the no contact rule and what counts as contact, along with how long people usually keep it and what evidence exists that distance helps.

Why there is no advice here on how to make him miss you during no contact

People search for how to make him miss you during no contact, and some ranking pages offer an answer. We do not have one, and we found no test of any such method. Silence used as a lever is still contact in disguise, and it keeps your days organized around a reaction you cannot see. Our about page lists what we will not publish.

The lists

5 signs the no contact rule is working: the usual five, checked

An unmade bed with white sheets and sunlight through thin curtains

We read the headings of 21 pages that rank for these searches: 17 from Google's top 20 and 4 from Bing, collected on 10 October 2026.

One page, one count per sign, headings only, so treat each number as a floor.

The sign as the lists put itPages of 21 with it in a headingWhat it can honestly carry
Your ex reaches out10They wanted to send that message. What they want beyond it is unknown until they say.
Your ex asks friends or family about you, or friends bring them up10Second-hand, filtered by the friend. Curiosity, guilt and politeness all look the same from here.
Your ex watches, likes or comments on what you post8They opened an app. Habit and boredom explain it as well as longing does.
Your ex shows up where you are6Shared neighborhoods and friends produce this by chance. If it is deliberate and unwelcome, it is a safety matter, not a compliment.
Your ex gets angry, sends angry messages or has mood swings6They are upset. Anger at you is not affection, and you do not owe it a reply.
You feel better, think of them less, want them back less4This one you can verify. It is the subject of the section on your own signs.

Only 4 of the 21 pages put a sign from the reader's own life in a heading. Most of the rest list only signs about someone else.

Lists that contradict each other

One list says running into him a lot is a sign; the same list says no longer seeing him around is a sign. One says not dating anyone shows he misses you; another says a fast new relationship shows it. When every outcome counts as a yes, the test cannot return a no.

What a sign would need to be worth anything

Three things: it would happen more often when someone misses you than when they do not, you could observe it directly and not through a friend's retelling, and it would have few other causes. A sentence such as "I miss you and I would like to talk" passes all three, which is why the section on messages ends there.

What nobody has measured

We found no study that followed people through no contact and checked which behaviors of an ex predicted their feelings or a reunion. Much of what is sold as no contact rule psychology is a coach's impression written as fact, and the page that says "surefire" is guessing with confidence.

They watch your stories

People ask this as "why does my ex watch my stories but not text me". Watching costs nothing and texting costs something. A view tells you they have not removed you from their feed, not why. Whatever they feel has not, so far, been enough to act on.

They like or comment

A like is public, so it says a little more than a view: they are willing to be seen being civil. Tone is hard to read even in full sentences. In five experiments on email by Kruger, Epley and colleagues, writers were overconfident that their intended tone would come across. A heart emoji carries far less than an email.

They block you, then unblock you

Both get read as proof: blocking "means he cannot handle seeing you", unblocking "means he is ready". A block is the clearest request for distance a person can make without speaking; take it as one. More on being blocked, and on blocking, in our notes on what to do about social media after a breakup.

Their signs, offline

Friends, places and changes you hear about

A bicycle leaning against a brick wall on a quiet street

Offline signs arrive second-hand, through someone who cares about you and knows what you hope to hear.

Mutual friends mention you, or get asked about you

"He asked how you were" is tied for first in our count. Asking after you is the polite minimum when someone meets their ex's friend; not asking would be the statement. If these reports set you back, it is fair to ask friends to stop bringing them. We suggest wording in our overview of what to ask of friends and family in the first weeks.

You keep running into them, or never do

Two people who shared a neighborhood, a gym and a circle of friends will cross paths for months without anyone arranging it. Deliberate appearances are a different matter. In a study of 318 undergraduate women who had broken up within the past three years, 59.7% reported unwanted pursuit behaviors from a former partner. An ex who keeps turning up after you asked for space is ignoring your request. See the part on contact that frightens you.

They are dating nobody, or somebody already

Staying single gets read as "still attached", dating quickly as "covering the pain", a new haircut or gym habit as a show put on for you. All three readings assume you are the cause. If your ex is with someone new, the useful questions are about you; we take them one at a time under missing an ex who has a new partner. What is known about fast new relationships, including how long rebounds tend to last and what an ex's rebound does and does not mean for you, has its own page.

They seem to want you jealous

Photos with someone new, flirting where you will hear of it. Either they want a reaction, or they have a life and you are seeing a slice of it. Even if it is the first, a person who communicates by provoking you is showing how they handle hard feelings.

Signs he is thinking about you during no contact

Sometimes, very likely: it would be odd if someone who shared months or years with you never did. That is why such signs settle nothing. Thinking of you is common, and it predicts no message and no return.

Our own count

What people really ask about no contact

We collected 179 US search queries about no contact after a breakup, searched 26,520 times a month in total, and sorted them by the question behind them.

Bar chart of monthly US searches about no contact, grouped by the question being asked
The questionQueriesSearches a month (share)

Does it work at all?4800 (3.0%)

29.0% of the searches are about the other person: whether they miss you, what they are thinking, whether it is "working" on them. Only 3.0% ask whether no contact works at all.

That is the gap this page is written for. The signs lists answer a question about someone else's head, which nobody can see. The useful version of the question is about your own: are you sleeping, eating, thinking about other things. Those signs you can check.

How we got these numbers

Keyword data from Ahrefs for the United States, collected on 10 October 2026. From 256 queries containing "no contact" we removed the ones about other things (court orders, deliveries, family estrangement and similar) and the bare two-word query, which is ambiguous, leaving 179. Each was assigned to the first matching group by fixed word patterns. Volumes are the tool's estimates and the grouping is ours.

An angry message

Six of the 21 pages put an ex's anger or mood swings in a heading, and several present it as a sign that no contact is working. That asks you to feel encouraged that someone is hostile toward you. An ex who is furious that you stopped answering has shown you one thing: your boundary bothers them.

A gift, a letter, or your things still at their place

A letter is effort, and effort counts for something: read what it says and believe that, no more. An unrequested gift after you asked for space is pressure in wrapping paper. As for your sweater still in their closet, sorting belongings is a chore people postpone; we cover it under returning and collecting things.

The only clear sign is a sentence

Everything above is behavior you interpret. The exception is language that needs none: they say they miss you, name what they miss, and ask whether you would welcome a conversation. Missing someone and being able to build something better with them are separate facts.

Why signs fail

Why another person's mind cannot be read from a feed

A train window view of fields passing under a cloudy sky

You knew this person well. That feels like an advantage in decoding them. The evidence says it mostly adds confidence.

01

Imagining their view does not improve your aim

In the 25 experiments by Eyal, Steffel and Epley, people told to take another's perspective were no more accurate at predicting that person's feelings or preferences, spouses included. If anything accuracy fell, while confidence sometimes rose.

02

What did help was asking

The final experiment in that paper found that getting the other person's view directly, through conversation, increased accuracy. During no contact that channel is closed on purpose. So the honest position is "I do not know", held for a while.

03

Hope reads every clue one way

When you want an answer, unclear evidence bends toward it. A view becomes interest; no view becomes "he is avoiding my page because it hurts".

Signs nobody could observe: dreams, energy, playlists

Some lists include "he has been having dreams about you", "he is often lost in thought" and "you feel strong energy around you". You cannot see a person's dreams from across town, and a feeling in your own chest is information about your chest.

Missing someone is not the same as wanting them back

People miss the Sunday routine, the dog, being known, the version of themselves they were at the start. They can miss all of it and still believe the breakup was right. One of the ranking pages puts it well: missing the connection is different from wanting to rebuild it.

Men

The male mind after no contact: what was measured

A notebook with a pen on a porch step beside a potted fern

Searches for the male mind after no contact expect a map: what he thinks first, what he thinks next. Researchers have compared men and women after breakups. We found none who drew that map.

StudyWho was askedWhat it found
Morris, Reiber and Roman, 2015 (figures from the university press release, not the paper)5,705 people in 96 countriesWomen rated emotional pain 6.84 of 10 and men 6.58; physical pain 4.21 and 3.75.
Perilloux and Buss, 2008193 participants (abstract; makeup of the sample not checked)Whoever was rejected, man or woman, reported more depression, lost self-esteem and rumination than whoever did the rejecting.
Field and colleagues, 2009192 university students with a recent breakupHigher distress went with not having initiated the breakup, less time since it, intrusive thoughts and disturbed sleep. Women scored higher on distress.
Fox and Tokunaga, 2015431 people, online surveyDistress predicted monitoring an ex on Facebook, most strongly in people who did not initiate the breakup.

No contact rule male psychology: the one large survey

A study often behind press claims about men and breakups is Morris, Reiber and Roman (2015). We could not open the paper; it sits behind a paywall. Every figure we give from it comes from the university's press release and from a student-written summary on Florida Tech's psychology news page, which describes an online survey of over 5,700 people, average age 27, from 96 countries, mostly the United States. Respondents rated a past breakup from 1 to 10.

The gap in emotional pain is a quarter of a point on a ten-point scale. The line most often quoted, that women recover more fully while men "never fully recover", comes from the press release. A survey that asks people to look back cannot follow anyone's recovery over time.

What 193 people reported about costs

Perilloux and Buss (2008) compared men with women and rejectors with rejectees. Per the abstract, which is what we read, women more than men reported feeling sad, confused and scared afterward, while rejected people of both sexes reported more depression and rumination. The paper tests evolutionary predictions and says nothing about no contact.

How guys feel during no contact

None of the four studies measured no contact; all measured reactions to a breakup. Put together, the defensible summary of how men feel after one is: much as women do, on average a shade less intensely by their own report. Differences among men are very likely larger than the quarter-point gap between the averages.

Who ended it matters more than who is male

In three of these studies the steadier divider is initiator status: the person who was left reports more distress and rumination, and their distress is more tightly linked to monitoring. If he ended it, nothing we read says his feelings turn into regret on a schedule.

Signs no contact is working on him

The searches "signs no contact is working on him" and "subtle signs no contact is working on him" assume silence acts on a man like a treatment with observable effects. In our count, 29.0% of searches look for such effects; we found no study that tested them.

Women

No contact rule female psychology: the same data from the other side

A row of empty swings in a playground at early evening

Pages on no contact rule female psychology tend to say women "process and move on" while men "feel it later". The measured differences are smaller and less tidy than that.

What women reported in the same surveys

Slightly more pain in the Morris survey, per its press release. More sadness, confusion and fear in Perilloux and Buss. Higher breakup distress scores in Field's 192 students. All three rely on self-report. None measured what a woman thinks when an ex goes quiet.

Is no contact working on her?

If "work" means "make her miss you", nobody knows, for women or men; we found no study of it. If it means helping the person who keeps the distance, the evidence does not separate the sexes. See whether the no contact rule works.

Signs no contact is working on her, or on an ex girlfriend

People type "signs no contact is working on her" and "signs no contact is working on ex girlfriend" hoping the list differs by sex. It does not: a view, a like and a friend's remark are equally unclear whoever produces them, and the checks above apply unchanged.

The search "5 signs the no contact rule is working female"

If the search "5 signs the no contact rule is working female" is a woman asking about herself, it has an answer: five things to check in your own week, listed under signs in your own life. They are the same for anyone.

The limit of survey averages

Averages across hundreds or thousands of strangers describe groups. Knowing that women in a survey averaged 6.84 and men 6.58 tells you nothing about the particular person you are wondering about tonight.

A kettle on a stove with steam rising in a small kitchen

"Days 1 to 7: shock and relief. Weeks 1 to 3: the curiosity window. Day 30: reappraisal." Schedules like this appear on several ranking pages. We found no study that describes what a man or a woman thinks on day 3, 14 or 30 after contact stops.

Day 30 is when they reappraiseThirty is a round number. Nothing in the research we read marks it.How to choose a length for your own distance
An avoidant ex is "deactivating" and is not over youThe attachment research we read describes distress and monitoring in the person doing the watching, with no schedule for the other. What to weigh before breaking no contact

Day 7 of no contact what is he thinking

People search "day 7 of no contact what is he thinking" as if day 7 were a known station. The nearest real data is a four-week daily diary of 58 young adults after a breakup by David Sbarra: more lingering love, anger and preoccupation went with a lower chance of recovering from sadness in that month.

Attachment styles, and when to break no contact with dismissive avoidant exes

In the Fox and Tokunaga survey, anxious attachment was linked, through investment and commitment, to more distress and more monitoring of an ex. That describes the person doing the watching and gives no timetable for the person watched. So the search "when to break no contact with dismissive avoidant" has no evidence-based day count, and labeling an ex from articles is guesswork.

Leo, Gemini and other star-sign searches

Google suggests "no contact rule with leo man psychology" and "no contact rule gemini man psychology". We looked for research sorting post-breakup behavior by birth month and found none to report.

Your signs

Signs in your own life that distance is helping

Turn the question around. These signs have one observer who can check them, and it is you.

Only 4 of the 21 ranking pages put a sign like this in a heading, and only 3.0% of the searches we sorted ask whether no contact helps at all. Yet this is the half of "is it working" that has an answer.

Sleep

Sleep often suffers after a breakup. In Field's study of 192 students, the high-distress group scored higher on a sleep disturbance scale and on intrusive thoughts. So nights are a fair gauge. Look for a trend, not perfect sleep. The same goes for eating at mealtimes and getting to work on time. Practical help is in our sections on sleep, food and the body in the first weeks and getting through the workday.

Hours without checking

If your longest gap has grown from one hour to an afternoon, something real has shifted, and the monitoring research below suggests why it matters. A related marker is interest: a book finished, a Saturday plan made for its own sake.

Fewer and shorter thoughts about them

Thoughts of an ex do not stop on command. What you can track is duration: the thought arrives, stays a while and leaves. Why they come and what loosens them is the subject of our page on how to stop thinking about an ex.

A clearer sense of who you are

Slotter, Gardner and Finkel found across three studies that people's self-concept became less clear after a breakup and that the loss of clarity predicted distress. In an eight-week study by Mason and colleagues, poorer self-concept recovery came before poorer well-being and went with continued love for the ex. A sign in practice: you can say what you want for dinner, or for next year, without first wondering what they would think.

A weekly five-line check

Once a week, same day, write five numbers: nights slept well, days eaten well, longest gap without checking, things done for their own sake, and a 1 to 10 for how much of the day they occupied. Compare with four weeks ago, never with yesterday. Recovery is uneven, and some things do speed it up while others slow it down.

Sleep and appetite have stayed badly off for more than a few weeksThe loss may be tangled with something heavier than a breakup alone.Talk to a doctor or therapist now; there is no waiting period. See when to bring in someone else.

Nothing has shifted after two months

Slow is common and is not failure. Stuck is different: the same intensity, week after week, with daily life shrinking around it. Two months is not a waiting period for help: if sleep or eating has been badly off for more than a few weeks, see a doctor or therapist now. We describe the difference, and what tends to help, under feeling stuck long after a breakup.

Doubting it is normal

Wondering some evenings whether distance is a mistake is common. If you slipped and wrote, that is ordinary too, and one message does not undo the weeks before it.

When full no contact is not possible

Children, a lease or a shared office make some contact necessary. The rule then bends into brief, practical contact, described under exceptions to no contact.

Checking

When looking for signs is what keeps it sore

An empty pier stretching over calm water at sunrise with mist

Collecting signs means looking: at profiles, at view lists, at friends' faces. Two studies looked at the looking.

What Marshall found in 464 Facebook users

Marshall (2012) asked 464 people about a past breakup and their Facebook habits. More surveillance of the ex's page was associated with greater current distress, more negative feelings, more sexual desire and longing for the ex, and lower personal growth. These links held after controlling for offline contact, personality and features of the relationship. The abstract reports associations only, so it cannot say whether watching causes the distress or distressed people watch more.

One finding cuts the other way. People who stayed Facebook friends with an ex reported less negative feeling and longing than those who did not, though also less personal growth. The paper's overall conclusion is that exposure to an ex through Facebook may obstruct healing and moving on.

Who monitors most

In Fox and Tokunaga's online survey of 431 people, distress after the breakup predicted monitoring the ex on Facebook right afterward, particularly among those who did not initiate the breakup, and predicted current monitoring too. If that is you, it is the expected pattern, not a flaw in your character.

Mute, unfollow or block

Mute hides their posts and stories without their knowing. Unfollow is visible if they look. Block closes both directions. Choose the lightest one that actually stops you checking; mute can fail because the profile is still one search away. These are settings on your own attention, not statements to your ex.

A rule for the urge

When you want to look, wait ten minutes and do one small physical thing first: a glass of water, a walk to the corner. Then, if you still look, note it on the weekly tally and move on without a lecture to yourself.

What the two studies share, and lack

Both are surveys, both about Facebook, published in 2012 and 2015. We found no repeat of them for Instagram stories or location sharing, where there is more to watch.

Contact

If they do reach out

A message from an ex lands like an alarm. It is not one. You have time, and the first decision is yours.

What they sendA reply that fits, if you want to reply
A small hello with no contentNothing today. Tomorrow, if you want contact: "Hi. I am doing okay. Was there something you wanted to talk about?"
A practical questionOne line that answers it. "It is in the hall closet. I can leave it with the front desk Friday."
"I miss you""Thank you for telling me. What are you hoping for?"
"Can we be friends?""Maybe later. I am not there yet, and I will say so if that changes."
Anger or blameNo reply, or once: "I am not going to discuss this by text."
A clear request to talk about trying again"I would be open to talking. Not tonight. Could we meet Saturday afternoon somewhere quiet?" Or: "I have thought about it and my answer is no. I wish you well."

Decide what you want before you answer

Should you respond if he reaches out during no contact? Only you can say, and not in the first hour. Sleep on it. Write down what you would want from contact: an apology, your books back, another try, nothing.

Ask what they want

"What did you have in mind?" is a fair question, and the answer is the first solid information you have had in weeks.

"I miss you" with no plan attached

Some people say they miss you and, when asked what they want, say they do not know, or that they are not ready for a relationship. Take that at face value: it is honest and it is not an offer. You can decline to be the place where they visit those feelings.

Children, a lease, a shared office

Where contact is necessary it is not a sign of anything. Keep it to the subject, in writing where possible, and at set times. In a study of 137 adults after a marital separation by Mason, Sbarra and colleagues, among people in contact with an ex, those who had not accepted the separation were adjusting worse than those who had. That is one snapshot of separated spouses, so it shows a link, not a cause.

If contact is unwanted or frightening

Repeated messages after you asked for space, turning up at your home or work, threats, tracking where you are: none of these is a sign that someone misses you. They are warning signs. Do not reply to test what they mean, keep a record, tell someone you trust, and contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788; free, confidential, 24/7). If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

If you are the one who wants to write

The signs above cannot tell you that writing is safe. If you want to write, write because you have something to say and can live with any answer, including none. We go through that decision under whether to tell an ex you miss them.

Reconciling

Signs he will come back after no contact: what reconciliation data shows

We found nothing that predicts one person's return. There are numbers on how often couples reunite, and on how those reunions go.

How often young couples get back together

Often. In the Toledo Adolescent Relationships Study, 792 daters and cohabitors aged 17 to 24 interviewed in Ohio in 2006, approximately 45 percent reported at least one breakup and reunion with their current or most recent partner. That is one county and one age band, and it says nothing about no contact. It does show that reunions are ordinary.

Can lost feelings come back during no contact?

The only thing that resembles one of the "signs he will come back after no contact" is in the table of messages: he says so, then acts in line with it for weeks. As for feelings an ex said were gone, they can shift in either direction with time and distance: absence may show that something was valued, or confirm the decision. What on-again relationships tend to look like

The same Toledo team looked at conflict. Young adults in on-and-off relationships were twice as likely to report physical violence as those stably together or stably apart, and half again as likely to report verbal abuse. In that sample over half of on-off couples reported some physical conflict. If the relationship had frightening moments, a return deserves a harder look than a list of signs can give it.

What do you do after no contact "works"?

If "works" means they wrote and you both want to talk: go slowly, talk about what ended it before how much you missed each other, and keep the supports you built while apart. If it means you feel better and no longer need an answer from them, that is the result. For the wider question of return, our page on whether an ex comes back and where the quoted odds come from goes through the numbers.

Silence

Signs he will never come back after no contact, and what silence means

This search asks for certainty in the other direction, and that is not available either.

No sign means never

Lists of signs he will never come back after no contact name blocking, a new partner, returned belongings, flat replies. Each may make a return less likely for now. None is a verdict. What you can know is the present: today they are not in contact.

Five things silence can mean

They are honoring the distance. They are hurting and protecting themselves. They are relieved. They have accepted it. They are waiting for you to move first. Silence has no content, so every reading of it is supplied by the reader.

Can he miss you without contacting you?

Yes. Pride, guilt, a belief that contact would be unfair to you, a new relationship or simple avoidance can all keep a person quiet. From the outside that looks identical to not missing you.

They are with someone new

A new partner is hard news whatever it means. It does not prove you were replaceable, and it does not prove they are covering pain. For what is known about such relationships, see what a rebound relationship is and the signs researchers and clinicians describe.

Living without the answer

Can you move on without knowing whether they miss you? People do. The not-knowing rarely gets resolved; it gets less interesting as your days fill. If the missing lasts for months, that is common too: see why an ex stays on your mind and still missing someone years later.

Support

When to bring in someone else

This site is not therapy, and a breakup does not usually need any. Sometimes it does.

Signs it is time for a professional

Checking and overthinking take hours of most days. Sleep or eating has been badly off for more than a few weeks. You are drinking more to get through evenings. Work or parenting is slipping. In a study of 1,295 unmarried adults aged 18 to 35, a breakup was followed by more psychological distress and lower life satisfaction, so feeling bad is expected. A doctor or licensed therapist is for when it is not easing, or is getting in the way of living.

If you are thinking about harming yourself

In the United States you can call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org, to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. It is free, confidential and available at any hour, every day. You do not have to be sure it is serious enough.

If the relationship was controlling or violent

Then distance is protection, and "does he miss me" is the wrong frame entirely. The hotline listed in the section on contact can help you plan, including for contact you cannot avoid.

Later

Being curious about someone new

What that curiosity does and does not show

Two ranking pages list "you are thinking about dating" and "you start getting asked out more" as signs that no contact is working. The first is a fair sign in your own life: attention is returning to the present. In the study of 1,295 adults above, people who had begun dating someone new showed smaller drops in life satisfaction after a breakup, though that may be because people who feel better date sooner.

A quick honesty check

Would you still want to go if your ex could never hear about it? If yes, you are probably curious. If the appeal is being seen, wait. Our rebound page has a fuller list of ways to tell whether you are ready to date again, and the first weeks are covered under what to do right after a breakup.

Questions

Signs and no contact: short answers

What are the signs he misses you during no contact?

The lists name story views, likes, questions to mutual friends, running into you and small messages. Each has several ordinary explanations, so none shows what he feels. The one clear sign is a plain statement from him. In our reading of 21 ranking pages, 10 put "your ex reaches out" in a heading and only 4 put a sign from the reader's own life in a heading.

What are the 5 signs the no contact rule is working?

Five you can check yourself: you sleep better, you eat normally, you go longer without checking their profiles, you take interest in other things, and thoughts of them pass faster. Signs about your ex cannot be verified from a distance.

Why does my ex watch my stories but not text me?

Watching takes one tap; texting takes a decision. A view shows your story played on their screen, and habit, curiosity and boredom explain it as well as longing does. If views unsettle you, mute or hide your stories from them.

Does he miss me during no contact?

Possibly, at moments, if the relationship mattered to him. But missing someone is common. It does not predict a message or a return, or tell you whether getting back together would be good for you.

How long does it take for an ex to miss you?

Nobody knows. Five of the 21 ranking pages we read pose this question in a heading, yet we found no study that timed when an ex starts missing a former partner, and people differ too much for one figure to mean anything.

What is he thinking on day 7 of no contact?

We found no research describing what a man thinks on any particular day. The timetables we read, such as "days 1 to 7 shock, day 30 reappraisal", cite no data.

Do men and women react differently to no contact?

We found no study that compared them during no contact. A university press release on a survey of 5,705 people in 96 countries reports women rating the emotional pain of a breakup 6.84 of 10 and men 6.58; we could not open the paper itself. That is a small average gap, and it says nothing about any one person.

Does no contact work?

For recovery, one survey points that way: among 464 people, watching an ex's Facebook page went with more distress and longing. As a way to make someone come back, we found no study that tested it. Of the 26,520 monthly searches we sorted, only 3.0% ask this question at all.

Is no contact still working if my ex has not reached out?

Yes, if you are doing better. Their silence measures nothing about your recovery. Check your own week: sleep, appetite, hours without checking, interest in other things.

What are signs the no contact rule is not working?

You post in the hope they will see it, you check their profiles daily, you are counting down to a day when you expect a reward, or friends bring you regular reports. In each case contact has continued in another form. If sleep and appetite stay badly off for more than a few weeks, talk to a doctor or therapist.

Should I respond if my ex reaches out during no contact?

Wait at least a night and decide what you want first. If you want contact, reply briefly and ask what they have in mind. If you do not, you may leave it unanswered or say once that you need space. Messages that continue after that, or frighten you, are a safety matter.

Figures in these answers come from our count of 179 search queries and from the studies linked in the source list. How we choose and read sources is set out on the about Moving On Well page.
